When Did Huang Zitao Leave EXO?
It was in August of 2015 when Huang Zitao, better known by his stage name Tao, decided to leave the K-pop group EXO owing to concerns about his health as well as legal conflicts with SM Entertainment. Between the years 2011 and 2015, he was a member of EXO and its Chinese sub-unit EXO-M. He was the third Chinese member to leave the group, following Kris and Luhan. Z.TAO Studio was the name of Tao’s Chinese agency, which he established in June of 2015. He filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment on August 24, 2015, requesting that his contract be terminated. He cited unreasonable terms and a lack of independence as the reasons for his decision. The contract duration was for a period of ten years. However, in March of 2018, the Supreme Court decided that his exclusive deal with SM was still in effect until 2022, and it dismissed his appeal because of this decision. Following his departure from EXO, Tao embarked on a prosperous solo career in China. He made his solo debut with the EP titled “TAO” in 2015, which sold 670,000 copies in its first week of release.
